HAIR STYLIST

DaRICO JACKSON

BIOGRAPHY

DaRico (Rico) Jackson has always been an artist at heart. So his decision to change his career path from majoring in Business Management to attending National Academy of Beauty Arts came as no surprise to people who know him well. From the beginning of his career as a hair stylist, Rico was determined to do more than just hair.  He offered his client’s innovative hair designs that were unique to their personality and day-to-day needs. He quickly carved out a niche for himself in the over saturated St. Louis market and set himself apart from the sea of ordinary stylists, which instantly gained him a large and faithful clientele that included area stylists that wanted know the secrets to his success.

Despite his local popularity, Rico strived to improve upon his knowledge and talents and signed on with Sebastian International Advanced Educational Program. While there, he advanced to a Regional Designer and Platform Artist for the company. Not content with only 2 jobs, he did platform work for Johnson’s Sensitive by Nature and Vitale’s Tenderhead product lines. Participating in education gave him an opportunity to share what he learned with his peers and kept him up to date with the latest trends.

Seeking another outlet for his creative energy led Rico to open a retail shoe store. Soul Mate Shoe Salon was short lived. However, instead of being defeated, DaRico turned the failed shoe store into an opportunity by converting the space into Fusion Hair Salon, an eclectic, upscale experience with a neo soul vibe. Here his clients could enjoy the atmosphere he created just for them.

Sensing a need for diversity in the St. Louis market, DaRico created “Contour” a non profit modeling agency that enabled minorities of all shapes, sizes and colors a platform to display their talent. Contour also produced some of the most progressive and provocative fashion shows of its time.

DaRico relocated to Los Angeles in 2003, and landed at the renowned Elgin Charles Salon of Beverly Hills where within months he was Shaquille O’Neal’s official media stylist for commercials, endorsements and television shows.  As the makeover reality TV craze took hold, DaRico was a natural for shows like “A Second Look,” “How Do I Look” and “Renovate My Family.”

Signed by the Crystal Agency, an artist management firm that specializes in providing hair, makeup and fashion styling talent to the entertainment and fashion industries, Rico launched into the freelance world of working behind-the-scenes.  Before long his portfolio was full of fashion and entertainment work and collaborations with some of the industries greats such as make up artist Joanne Gair, and photographers Andrew Matusik and Nadia Pandolofo.

His celebrity clientele includes Tasha Smith, Michael Ealy, Tichina Arnold, Raven Simone, Paula Abdul, Dawn Robinson, Lorraine Toussaint, Eartha Kitt, Dianne Shur, Tanya Blaunt, Trinity 5:7, and Cherelle.

Despite his busy schedule, DaRico stays focused on his goals. “My gifts are a blessing to be thankful for” he says, “I never want to take my life for granted”.

In April 2007 DaRico ran the 26K LA Marathon on March to raise money for AIDS awareness.
