I became fashion conscious, like many people, out of a true desire to express my self individually. From very early on I always looked at the styles I saw in magazines and on T.V. and instantly saw how I would make the outfit look different and more individually expressive, even if just for myself. I would find myself buying items that were close to what I saw in my head and having my mother alter them to fit my vision. Eventually, I started doing the alterations myself, and decided to finish school at FIDM where I graduated in 2004 as a designer.
I started as a stylist with just one contact, and stumbled through my first job without a clue. I came home from that job completely exhausted and totally exhilarated. I could not wait to do it again. I have worked with many different clients in many different styles and have learned from each one.
Fashion, to me is an empty canvas with no limits, a way for an individual to express oneself. I get excited when I see the person not afraid to stick out of the crowd, the person expressing him/herself and really using the way they dressed and looked to say something about how they felt. The fact that 3 different people can buy the same item, and still have 3 completely different personal styles is part of what I like about the creativeness of this industry. How many different ways and for how many different individuals can this piece work? It truly excites me when I see an outfit and look put together in a way that I never would have come up with myself. Designers and stylist who show me new ideas inspire me to stretch my limits and always keep learning.
I truly love this work and am greatly fulfilled by every different experience I have along the way. I have learned a lot up to this point in my career and am excited by the prospect of the challenges ahead because they will force me to create something fresh and attractive….and that, is why I do this work in the first place.
